I’m pretty sure you will all be aware of the Covid-19 by now, the novel Coronavirus that began in Wuhan in December 2019 has now become a pandemic. More than 250000 people worldwide have been contaminated with gross casualties exceeding 150000. And the saddest part is that each second, the count is going up.

Coronavirus has a negative influence on the global economy. Name any business, whether it is hospitality, food, airlines, transportation or any other, they all face unparalleled lows.
But for few industries, even in this bleak situation, there’s an overlooked profit. We’re going to discuss the same in this post.

Online Grocery delivery

Online grocery delivery is another company that in the past couple of months has seen a huge increase. People in China now go-to online grocery stores to satisfy their everyday food supplies. According to French retailer Carrefour, vegetable deliveries increased by 600 percent during the lunar New Year period. In addition, the Chinese online retailer JD.com experienced year-over-year growth of 215 percent to a massive 15,000 tons over a short 10-day period starting from late January through early Feb.
Not only is this scenario restricted to China, but the grocery delivery apps are experiencing a record number of downloads even in the US. Various online grocery apps, including Walmart Grocery, Instacart, Shipt, and many others, have seen another record number of downloads according to Apptopia’s numbers.
Comparing the average daily transactions in February to March 15, Shipt, Instacart, and Walmart Grocery experienced 124%, 218%, and 160% respectively.

These apps typically see tens of thousands to 20k+ downloads in a single day. But InstaCart registered roughly 38.50 downloads on March 15. Similarly, Walmart Grocery witnessed nearly 54,000 downloads.

Mail and delivery services

Mail and delivery services were also affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, most of them continue to operate while the distribution speed has been affected. A.S. Postal Service letter carriers continued their work of delivering mail from door to door throughout the region.
FedEx has confirmed they are sanitizing their supplies, while UPS has continued to operate according to local regulations.
A USPS spokesperson said in a statement that due to the pandemic the postal service currently faces no effect on the operations. We update contingency plans, however, in case we are needed.
According to the CDC, there is very little chance of coronavirus spreading through products and packages that are shipped over a number of days due to poor surface survival of the virus.
The union consists of 1,400 postal workers, maintenance workers and truck drivers in the area. According to the official, they are in constant contact with the local authorities to ensure that there are sufficient cleaning facilities available in the various branches.

Food delivery

Experts agree that food producers and third-party suppliers will raise their incomes by supplying the self-isolated hungry customers with food.
Many companies, such as Grubhub Inc., DoorDash Inc. and Uber, can see a surge in food delivery orders as most people would choose to stay at home and avoid travel. Restaurant companies are also adapting to the Pandemic situation.
According to Jason Helfstein, an Oppenheimer analyst, food supply companies will benefit from the rise of order, as growing numbers will work from home and not be forced to go to a crowded restaurant.
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi also indicated to UberEats that more people should remain indoors as this situation should benefit. This is not just the Grubhub North American supplier.

Contactless delivery

Many food sources worldwide are contactless methods of distribution. A variety of companies including Zomato, Dominoz, and McDonald’s, Postmates, DoorDash, Glovo, Just Eat and Deliveroo have launched zero-contact delivery methods.
All customers must choose a new choice in the application in order to access such services before placing an order.
In the case of non-contact delivery, the delivery person shall keep the food in front of the customer’s door to avoid the risk of infection. The shipper must also wait for the order to be picked up outside.
On 12th March Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. revealed that from 15 March to the end of the month it will give free delivery. They also confirmed that they would provide distribution options that would restrict individual contact. In addition, the packaging will also be added to ensure stitched deliveries.

Amazon to hire additional 100,000 employees

To meet the surge in demand from online shopping due to the coronavirus outbreak, Amazon has announced to hire an additional staff of 100,000 employees in the U.S.
Amazon is looking to hire extra part-time and full-time positions for both delivery workers and warehouse. They have also announced to hike the pay of these employees by $2 per hour in US, €2 per hour in EU countries, and £2 per hour in the UK. Currently, Amazon is paying around $15 per hour in a few areas of the U.S.
Amazon has been badly hit by the product shortages and delivery delays amid the coronavirus outbreak. The continuous spread of the pandemic has made people avoid going outside and heavily rely on online retailers.
Amazon also said that many of their famous labels and products were out of stock, while others would take longer than normal to deliver. They were therefore notified, which reads: ‘Inventory and delivery may be temporarily unavailable due to increased demand. Confirm availability at checkout. “Not only that, but the same-day or two-day shipping options offered to their prime customers have experienced a delay of several days.
Amazon is experiencing increased demand from customers on several fronts as shoppers continue to store online, various services such as Amazon Fresh Grocery and Prime Now report limited availability as shoppers have been unable to deliver.
Amazon has changed its warehouse staff attendance policies to encourage them to take unrestricted unpaid time off for March’s month.
The organization also takes extra care at its numerous distribution centers by rising the cleaning duration at all locations. They have also told their staff at the start & end of all the shifts about sanitizing and cleaning their vehicles and workstations.
Amazon has already told its staff worldwide to continue operating from home until the end of March. This order extends to all Amazon Corporate Offices staff.
